Comedy Dynamics spun off from New Wave Entertainment and into new Nacelle Company

In recent years, New Wave Entertainment has shifted its focus, expanding and begetting new divisions. A production arm called New Wave Dynamics has since redefined itself as Comedy Dynamics, and today, NWE announced it had spun off Comedy Dynamics as part of another company entirely: Nacelle Company.

Brian Volk-Weiss, CEO of Comedy Dynamics, becomes CEO of Nacelle.

Comedy Dynamics is behind such shows as History’s Join or Die with Craig Ferguson, Animal Planet’s Animal Nation with Anthony Anderson and History’s newly announced two-hour special Kevin Hart Presents: The Black Man’s Guide to History. Nacelle will operate with multiple departments including pre- and postproduction, management, development and distribution. It is working on projects with Netflix, HBO, Discovery, Legendary, Hulu, PBS, Lifetime and others.

Comedy Dynamics Records will keep its name as a division of Nacelle. The label won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album in 2016 for producing Louis C.K. Live at Madison Square Garden, and they’ve made eight Grammy-nominated comedy albums since 2013.

Here are quotes from the press release:

Paul Apel, CEO of New Wave, said: “Brian has done an outstanding job growing Comedy Dynamics into a market leader and as it continues to grow and expand, we needed to organize the business to address those needs.”

Volk-Weiss added: “We started our company as an organization focused on comedy and we have now expanded into other fields such as original scripted series, talk shows and documentaries. Nacelle will house all of our comedy and other projects under one roof.”

In 2016 Comedy Dynamics produced the following shows:

  • Animal Planet’s Animal Nation with Anthony Anderson
  • History’s Join Or Die with Craig Ferguson
  • MTV’s Spooning… With Zac Efron
  • Seeso’s There’s … Johnny
  • MTV2’s Wild ‘N On Tour
  • Hulu’s Coming To The Stage
  • HISTORY’s 50 Years of Star Trek
  • HISTORY’s Kevin Hart Presents: The Black Man’s Guide to History
