Hear Norm Macdonald tell Howard Stern about Weekend Update, David Letterman, Burt Reynolds and Rodney Dangerfield

Norm Macdonald went on Howard Stern on Monday morning with a long dirty joke and plenty of stories, which is convenient since the comedian’s new book, Based on a True Story: A Memoir, went on sale today.

Hear here clips of Macdonald reminiscing about “Weekend Update” on Saturday Night Live (Chevy Chase called him with advice after NBC fired him, Al Franken wanted the Update desk when Lorne Michaels chose Macdonald instead, and Steve Martin inadvertently helped Macdonald avoid having a female co-anchor), calling up Eugene Levy for permission to write the “Celebrity Jeopardy” sketch on SNL that allowed Macdonald to play an out-of-era version of Burt Reynolds (plus a story about meeting Reynolds and what he told Norm about filming Deliverance), what he learned from Rodney Dangerfield, and how special of a place in his heart Norm keeps for David Letterman.
