The Final Edition releasing first original National Lampoon comedy album in 35 years

Throwback Thursday to the Future?

Tony Hendra, who produced National Lampoon‘s first album back in 1972, is back with Jeff Kreisler and the rest of his team at The Final Edition to produce and release the Lampoon’s first original comedy album since the early 1980s. “Are There Any Triggers Here Tonight?” comes out Sept. 9, 2016.

The new album takes on the concept of a “live” performance in three parts at a small Ohio college, as the audience of college students and administrators becomes more and more triggered by the satirical sketches and jokes, which include takes on Bernie Sanders, the NYPD, the TSA, abortion, consent, Kim Kardashian, Elmo, and more that threaten the “safe space” the college campus so desperately tries to maintain through political correctness.

“In the midst of mindless, shrill conversations about comedy, culture and other C-words, we’re just trying to be ferociously disrespectful and funny as hell,” Hendra says of the new album.

Hendra co-produced and co-wrote National Lampoon’s 1972 album, “Radio Dinner,” with Michael O’Donoghue, and followed that up with the 1974 Grammy-nominated production of his off-Broadway hit, Lemmings (which, in turn, gave first starring roles to John Belushi, Chevy Chase and Christopher Guest, among others). Hendra would later portray the manager of Guest’s fictional band in the groundbreaking mockumentary, This Is Spinal Tap.

With Kreisler, author of “Get Rich Cheating,” Hendra has built The Final Edition Radio Hour into a new generational update and take on the old Lampoon radio brand, so making an album for the Lampoon seems fitting.

Here’s a preview of “Are There Any Triggers Here Tonight?”
