SiriusXM to broadcast rare final recording of the late Sam Kinison

A rare recording from one of Sam Kinison‘s final stand-up performances, just days before his death at 38 in a 1992 highway crash, has been enhanced and will be heard publicly for the first time this Friday on SiriusXM satellite radio.

It’s part of a celebration of Kinison this weekend on the SiriusXM Comedy Greats channel, which also will include an exclusive audio documentary about Kinison’s career and legacy — hosted by SiriusXM’s Ron Bennington featuring interviews with Louie Anderson, Andrew Dice Clay, Josh Gad, Kevin Hart, Carl LaBove, Marc Maron and Jackie Martling.

“Sam Kinison was one of the most influential and distinct voices in comedy, and was taken from us far too soon. This stand-up special and documentary will give fans new insight on the legendary comic, and is a great jumping-off point for those who were less familiar with his inimitable brand of humor,” said Jack Vaughn, Sirius XM’s senior vice president for comedy programming.

SiriusXM previously launched its series of specials/documentaries on comedy legends earlier this year with a retrospective on Bill Hicks.

Comedy Dynamics will release a Sam Kinison box set (“The Definitive Comedy Collection”) for sale in September.

SiriusXM’s Kinison special airs at 3 p.m. EDT this Friday (Aug. 12, 2016) on SiriusXM’s Comedy Greats (Ch. 94), as well as through the SiriusXM app and online at siriusxm.com.
