by Lin-Manuel Miranda and his improvised comedy hip-hop group Freestyle Love Supreme have scaled even greater heights on Broadway, first with Miranda’s semi-autobiographical In The Heights, and now with the transcendent musical Hamilton.
Miranda’s co-conspirator in creating Freestyle Love Supreme, Thomas Kail, directs Hamilton. And Christopher Jackson (C-Jack in FLS) plays George Washington in Hamilton.
When Miranda accepted his Tony Award for Best Score last night, he joked that he’d gotten too old to freestyle. So he wrote a sonnet instead. A declaration of love. Written especially for this moment in time.
