Eddie Vedder and Judd Apatow sing a duet to Garry Shandling using Shandling’s own words, at Bonnaroo

Judd Apatow and Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder were equally full of surprises this weekend at the Bonnaroo music and comedy festival in Tennessee.

Apatow introduced Vedder as the surprise guest on his comedy showcase, and then informed the audience that Vedder had written a song in tribute to Apatow’s late mentor in comedy, Garry Shandling, using Shandling’s own words. But Vedder also had a surprise for Apatow and the crowd.

As Apatow explained: “It’s a combination of his journals and jokes, and then today, I said, ‘OK, let’s listen to the song,’ and then he said, ‘No. You’re singing the song with me.'”

Apatow joked that nobody wants that.

And yet. We did. We do.
