Mike Birbiglia to promote his film, “Don’t Think Twice,” with Improv Across America bus tour, workshops

Mike Birbiglia's winning movie about an improv comedy group, Don't Think Twice, will get a nationwide theatrical run this summer, starting July 22, 2016, in New York City, and preceded by a 20-city "Improv Across America" bus tour complete with free improv workshops.

Don't Think Twice premiered in March at SXSW, and also screened at the Tribeca Film Festival last month.

Written and directed by Birbiglia, he also stars in the film alongside Keegan-Michael Key, Gillian Jacobs, Kate Micucci, Tami Sagher and Chris Gethard -- they play members of an improv group that gets pulled apart when one of its members successfully auditions for a TV institution not unlike Saturday Night Live.

The film is emotionally powerful, and hits home for anyone who has ever performed improv, or sketch, or been involved in a group project, or has feelings, ambitions, hopes and fears.

Birbiglia's “Improv Across America” bus tour will include free workshops led by Liz Allen -- who coached the Don't Think Twice cast in their rehearsals -- with select improv comedy theaters including iO Chicago and Planet Ant in Detroit. The tour will also feature pop-up screenings of the film and appearances by Birbiglia, the cast and other special guests.

Birbiglia and producer Ira Glass previously led a national tour to promote their first film together, Birbiglia's Sleepwalk With Me.

Don't Think Twice also includes executive production from Cold Iron Pictures and The Film Arcade.

Of Film Arcade, Birbiglia said: “This a company that is young and willing to try things, which is the spirit of how we made the film. Hopefully no one is fact checking this. They’re not actually that young. They’re like, middle aged but they act young in that ‘It’s LA, no one is actually young’ kinda way. The point is, I love these guys and we’re bringing the movie everywhere.”

I only see 12 cities listed. The article says 20. Do you have the other 8 cities where the tour will take place?
