Larry Wilmore’s speech at the 2016 White House Correspondents Dinner

“Welcome to Negro Night here at the Washington — or as FOX News will report, ‘Two thugs disrupt elegant dinner in D.C.'”

And with that, Larry Wilmore was off to the races. So to speak. Wilmore, host of The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore on Comedy Central, creator of The Bernie Mac Show and original showrunner on ABC’s black-ish before getting the late-night Comedy Central gig, delivered the keynote Saturday night at the 2016 White House Correspondents Dinner.

The eighth and last WHCD of President Barack Obama’s tenure, the president has proven himself to be a hard act to follow.

But you know who can also take a joke? Obama.

Care to guess who cannot take a joke? The media.

Before you read a whole mess of hot takes about Wilmore’s speech, just know that he enjoyed the fact that the media groaned at his jokes, and delighted in taking the piss out of Obama for not closing Gitmo while also dropping bombs from drones.

It may not rank as high as Stephen Colbert’s roast of President George W. Bush a decade ago, but give Wilmore due credit for his commitment to his own jabs and jibes.

Roll the clip!
