Episode #84: Greg Behrendt

Greg Behrendt gets introduced to the stage these days as a best-selling author, which is true, but there’s more to Behrendt than meets the eye of anyone who read He’s Just Not That Into You. Or the follow-up books he has written with his wife. Or who saw him host a daytime TV show. Or who listened to him podcast Walking The Room with Dave Anthony. Or who hear his surf, ska and punk band, The Reigning Monarchs. Or rock out with him and other comedians on his musical comedy showcase, Bring The Rock. Behrendt met up with me during the 2016 Moontower Comedy Festival in Austin, and he tells me about how his mother and Margaret Cho finally convinced him to embrace comedy, how David Cross, Janeane Garofalo and Patton Oswalt helped him form longstanding bonds, how The Replacements figure into his grand scheme of things, and how coming back from cancer has impacted his views on life, mortality, a career and family.

He has a new podcast and band thing, too, called Greg Behrendt and his Flying White Falcon, which you can find as well as merchandise to rock out like Greggaestyle at his site, The Pompahawk Chop Shop (The King Sweater).

So let’s get to it!
