TV Land upgrades Throwing Shade podcast to late-night TV talker for 2017

Congrats to Erin Gibson and Bryan Safi, the comedians who co-host the Throwing Shade podcast, as they’re about to join the late-night TV ranks with a series order today from TV Land.

Throwing Shade‘s 10-episode order will premiere in January 2017 in the 11 p.m. ET/PT timeslot. Gibson and Safi will host the weekly half-hour political and pop culture show in front of a live audience.

“This amazing, weird brainchild of Erin and Bryan translates perfectly into a weekly late-night show,” TV Land executive vice president of development and original programming Keith Cox said. “We can’t wait to see them take on the most recent and ridiculous news of 2017.”

Here’s a clip from their pilot:

Throwing Shade began as a podcast in 2011 on the Maximum Fun network. The TV Land series will be produced by Funny or Die, which has made a video version of the podcast since 2013. Gibson and Safi will EP with Funny Or Die’s Andrew Steele, Anna Wenger and Joe Farrell, and Charlie Siskel (“Review,” “Tosh.0”) will executive produce and serve as showrunner.

As it happens, Gibson and Safi are heading out on a national tour this summer, with tickets just going on sale for most dates this week.
