Episode #76: Henry Phillips

How Henry Phillips became a comedy troubadour is as interesting a story as whether or not he is one or what that even means. In fact, Phillips now has made two movies poking fun at his life and career, Punching The Clown, which won the 2009 audience award at Slamdance, and now And Punching The Clown, which looks at what happened when a TV network then wanted to develop a series about him. Except not really. Sarah Silverman, Tig Notaro, Doug Stanhope, Al Madrigal, Mark Cohen and dozens of comedians join Oscar-winner JK Simmons in And Punching The Clown, which premiered at 2016’s SXSW festival in Austin. Henry caught me up on his very real backstory.

So let’s get to it!
