by Jack Vaughn launched Comedy Central Records in 2002 thanks to his love of Mitch Hedberg and other unappreciated comedians of the time, and won four Best Comedy Album Grammys with them. A decade later, he moved to Hollywood and joined Comedy Dynamics and New Wave, where Vaughn executive produced and helped distributed even more stand-up specials, documentaries and showcase series, including the 2016 Grammy-winning album, Louis CK: Live at Madison Square Garden. Vaughn is back in New York City now, where he started 2016 with a new job as head of comedy programming for SiriusXM satellite radio. How he did all that is fascinating, but perhaps not as amazing as what happened to him even before his comedy career started. A child of the U.S. Foreign Service, he was living in Iran in 1979 (his family escaped just before the hostage crisis), went to high school in Guatemala in the late 1980s, then got involved in the DIY punk rock scene in Washington, D.C., before swing music spun him into the record business.
