Weird Al Yankovic joins IFC’s Comedy Bang! Bang! as Scott Aukerman’s bandleader

First a Grammy Award, now this? Comedy Bang! Bang! indeed!

IFC announced today that “Weird Al” Yankovic, the king of all musical satire and parody, reigning to this day as current holder of the Grammy Award of Comedy Album of the Year, has joined Scott Aukerman as the bandleader and co-host for Comedy Bang! Bang! Yankovic replaces Kid Cudi, who had replaced original musical/comedy partner Reggie Watts last year when Watts jumped to The Late Late Show with James Corden.

Production on the new season begins today on 20 more half-hour episodes that will air this spring on IFC.

“If you would have told me, when I was a teenager, listening and laughing along to Al’s “In 3-D” album, that one day I would partner up with him, I would have asked who you were and how you got in my room,” Aukerman said. “Then I would have politely shown you the door.  Because that’s how I was raised.”

Aukerman and Yankovic discuss their new partnership on today’s episode of the Comedy Bang! Bang! podcast (episode 397).

Comedy Bang! Bang! marks Yankovic’s first return to a weekly TV series since starring in The Weird Al Show in 1997.

Fun fact!

Here’s Yankovic himself, Tweeting:

“As Comedy Bang! Bang! enters its fifth season, IFC continues to be proud of how the series subversively reinvents the late-night talk show and attracts some of the biggest names in Hollywood, all thanks to comedic Renaissance man, Scott Aukerman,” said Jennifer Caserta, president of IFC. “We are thrilled to welcome Weird Al to Comedy Bang! Bang!, as he joins us straight from his global tour in support of his first number one album.  This is big news, people!”

Comedy Bang! Bang! is produced for IFC by Abso Lutely Productions; Aukerman, Dave Kneebone and Neil Campbell serve as executive producers.

Here’s a clip from 2012 when Yankovic joined Watts on the CBB stage. Roll it!
