Larry the Cable Guy will host U.S. adaptation of Finnish game show, “Hide The Smile”

ThinkFactory Media, the company that showed us the “reality” TV of Tony Danza teaching, Sinbad’s family life, and Gene Simmons kissing his Family Jewels, now wants to bring a popular comedy game show from Finland to the United States, with Larry the Cable Guy hosting the American adaptation of Hide The Smile.

As first reported by Deadline, ThinkFactory nabbed the U.S. licensing for Hide The Smile from London-based distributor Small World IFT.

The comedy boom of the 1980s brought us Make Me Laugh, which featured stand-up comedians trying to provoke a smile or full-on laugh from contestants.

Hide The Smile brings contestants onstage in front of a live studio audience where they don’t know what they’ll have to sit stone-faced through — whether it’s a scripted sketch, surprise guest or anything else the comedy troupe throws at the contestant. It won TV awards in Finland when it first aired there in 2009, and has been adapted for audiences in Turkey and Canada so far.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Larry the Cable guy to bring Hide The Smile to U.S. audiences after the format has received so much success in other territories,” said Adam Reed, ThinkFactory’s executive vice president. “We all know how hard it can be to keep a poker face, and this program will test the stamina and determination of contestants in a way that is sure to have audiences breaking their own smiles and bursting with laughter.”
