Episode #43: Mary Mack

Today’s guest is Mary Mack, whose comedic voice is so uniquely wonderful and winning, you’d barely believe they could replace her on an animated TV series. But then Mack’s life is full of surprises onstage and off, the kind of act that could compete for the Andy Kaufman Award and still see her spending parts of her year not in L.A., Minnesota or road gigs but serving coffee out of her own camper in the woods of the upper Midwest. We talk about all of that, and she proves that her willingness to interact with strangers is not an act on her new CD, Pig Woman – Mary Mack, when our chats in Long Island City get interrupted.

So let’s get to it!

(Mary Mack’s CD cover built out of Minnesota-based seeds by Liz Schreiber, won an Award of Merit in the Horticulture Building’s exhibit under the “Special Occasion” category at this past summer’s Minnesota State Fair. It’s based on an Americana series of photos of Mack taken by Christina Gandolfo.)
