TBS will jumpstart 2016 comedy programming with marathon launch of “Angie Tribeca”

TBS has been impressed with upcoming new sitcom Angie Tribeca for months now — bringing the cast and sneak peek episodes to both SXSW in Austin this March, then NY Comic-Con in October.

So it’s not surprising to hear the cable network already has renewed the slapstick cop farce starring Rashida Jones as a lone-wolf police detective.

What is surprising?

TBS has ordered 10 all-new seasons! Well, let’s choose their words carefully. Because each episode will contain a “season premiere” and “season finale” within its half-hour, so seasons 2-11 of Angie Tribeca consists of 10 episodes.

That said, Angie Tribeca‘s first season will debut with a 25-hour marathon of those first 10 episodes — commercial-free from 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, straight through 10 p.m. Monday (times Eastern/Pacific). You can watch them via cable TV or the TBS VOD, digital and mobile platforms. The following 10 episodes/seasons will unfold Monday nights beginning Jan. 25, 2015. Fun fact: That’s also about when Full Frontal with Samantha Bee starts appearing weekly in late-night on TBS.

OK, roll the clip!

The show’s description, per TBS press:

Real, brooding and shockingly alive, Angie Tribeca is the brainchild of Steve and Nancy Carell, who executive-produce the series through their Carousel Television. The series follows a squad of committed LAPD detectives who investigate the most serious cases, from the murder of a ventriloquist to a rash of baker suicides.

At the center of Angie Tribeca is Angie Tribeca, played by Rashida Jones (The Office, Parks and Recreation) in the performance of a lifetime as a lone-wolf detective who is none too happy when partnered with J Geils, played by Hayes MacArthur (Life As We Know It, Go On). Jere Burns (Justified, Breaking Bad) plays the squad’s apoplectic captain. Helping solve each complex case are detective Danny Tanner, played by Deon Cole (CONAN, Black-ish); Dr. Monica Scholls, the quirky, bespectacled medical examiner played by Andrée Vermeulen (Upright Citizen’s Brigade, How To Train Your Dragon television series); and Hoffman, Tanner’s K9 German Shepard partner played by Jagger (Max).
