Episode #24: W. Kamau Bell

For two seasons over two different channels (FX and FXX), W. Kamau Bell joined elite company as host of his own late-night TV talk show, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell. He’ll return to your cable TV on a regular basis in 2016 as host of United Shades of America on CNN. In between, he has presided over two Showtime stand-up comedy showcases for SXSW, co-hosts the podcast Denzel Washington Is The Greatest Actor of All Time Period, and he spoke with me about how far he has come toward ending racism, and how far his and our bell curve has to go. So let’s get to it!

Plus hear Bell talk for the first time about what Chris Rock (his show’s co-creator and executive producer) told him when FX Networks cancelled Totally Biased, why he dropped out of college, moving from Philadelphia to Chicago to San Francisco to New York City and back to the Bay Area, and how fatherhood has changed him and his comedy. Complete with a Jim Gaffigan reference! Recorded from Bell’s hotel room in Washington, D.C., during the 2015 Bentzen Ball.
