Horatio Sanz, Fred Armisen help launch new Broadway Video outpost for Latino comedy: Mas Mejor

Former Saturday Night Live stars Horatio Sanz and Fred Armisen are helping their boss’s Broadway Video maintain some sense of diversity by incubating young Latino comedians with a new video outpost, to be called Mas Mejor.

“There is no real hub for high-quality Latino comedy,” Sanz told AdWeek.

Broadway Video announced the upcoming launch of Mas Mejor on Tuesday during Advertising Week in New York City. It’ll begin uploading wherever you see videos come January 2016, with a roster of comedic talent that includes stand-up comedian Gina Brillon, sketch/improv/character actor Frank Garcia-Hejl, Vine star David Lopez and sketch group Room 28. Content will be provided in both Spanish and English, and Broadway Video will have help from NBCUniversal’s Telemundo Enterprises.

Broadway Video already has provided a separate launch pad and incubation network for many comedians via Above Average over the past few years.

“This is going to be a place where people can go to and know that it’s going to be good stuff,” Sanz said, and he’ll be taking an active role in leading Mas Mejor. “We’re going to try and get the taste level a little higher.”

It’s an auspicious time for the growing Latino population in the United States, not just socio-politically but also comedically.

Just as news broke of Mas Mejor, we saw another former SNL star, Tina Fey, fail at one of Billy Eichner’s games trying to name Latino stars in this promo for the new season of Billy on the Street on truTV.

And Fusion has been upping its output of Latino-based video sketches via its new F-Comedy channel on YouTube. Here are two: One based on The Avengers, another on the GOP presidential campaigns.
