Maya & Marty? Maya Rudolph’s NBC variety series may earn renewal as duo with Martin Short

This just in from reliable source Michael Ausiello at TVLine: NBC has given serious considerations to bringing back Maya Rudolph’s variety show as a series, but with a catch. Martin Short would be her partner in comedy crime, making the potential primetime partnership of Maya & Marty.

Maya & Marty performed together to kick off a musical tribute segment in Saturday Night Live‘s epic SNL40 celebration.

NBC aired a backdoor pilot for The Maya Rudolph Show in primetime back in May 2014.

Since then, the network has emphasized specialty and live programming — greenlighting the weekly Best Time Ever showcase fronted by Neil Patrick Harris on Tuesday nights this fall. NBC has made no secret of trying to find a complementary series to fill the holes when NPH’s variety series goes dark.

Could this be it?
