Last Things First, Episode #3: Horatio Sanz

Today’s guest is Horatio Sanz, born in Chile, raised in Chicago and known by many as cast member for eight seasons on Saturday Night Live. His other credits start with The Second City troupe in Chicago – where he also was an original member of The Upright Citizens Brigade – to more recent turns in Girls, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Modern Family. He recently launched his own podcast on Earwolf called The Hooray Show with Horatio. You’ll hear his co-host Chad Krueger interrupt us as I caught up with Horatio in his hotel room during the 2015 edition of South by Southwest in Austin, Texas.

Horatio Sanz tells The Comic’s Comic about working for his family outside of Chicago, his first big character sketch — and Sheldon Patinkin’s reaction to it — his SNL audition (and potential quotas on character types of that cast). Plus, his experiences working on his first onscreen credit, in the 1994 remake of Miracle on 34th Street.

So let’s get to it!

Listening to the podcast doesn’t cost you anything extra. But if you’d like something extra, please consider becoming a paid subscriber of The Comic’s Comic Presents Last Things First via Patreon. For just a dollar or more, I’ll give you bonus audio content, newsletters and more that other listeners aren’t getting for free. It’ll be worth your time and investment. Thanks!
