Netflix orders “Lady Dynamite” comedy series starring Maria Bamford

Now it can be told: Netflix has ordered 13 half-hour episodes of Lady Dynamite, a comedy series starring Maria Bamford based on “her life” (quotes theirs).

Bamford already had hinted at pre-production work on the series in recent weeks.

Today’s formal announcement from Netflix reveals that Lady Dynamite will be “based on what she has accepted to be ‘her life.’ The occasionally surreal episodes, refracted across multiple periods inspired by the actor/comedian’s life, tell the story of a woman who loses – and then finds – her s**t.”

Pam Brady and Mitch Hurwitz join Bamford as executive producers on the single-cam series. Brady will serve as showrunner.

Hurwitz already has a relationship with Netflix, what with his ongoing revival of Arrested Development there, as well as executive producing Will Arnett’s Flaked. News filtered out just this week on another Netflix series (The Ranch) reuniting Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson. They join the upcoming With Bob and David, an untitled Aziz Ansari show in production now in NYC, the Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp miniseries debuting in July, the multi-cam revival sequel of Full House as Fuller House, and Judd Apatow’s Love expected in early 2016.
