Colin Quinn’s “The New York Story,” directed by Jerry Seinfeld, debuts Off-Broadway July 2015

Jon Stewart glossed over the news in his otherwise highly amusing interview with Colin Quinn on Wednesday’s episode of The Daily Show when Stewart asked if Jerry Seinfeld would be directing Quinn onstage again.

Because it’s happening.

This summer.

Colin Quinn’s The New York Story will debut at The Cherry Lane Theatre on July 9, with an official opening July 23 and a limited engagement through Aug. 16. It’s based on Quinn’s new book, “The Coloring Book,” just released this week. Seinfeld directs, and it’s presented by Brian Stern, Mike Lavoie and Mike Berkowitz.

Seinfeld previously directed Quinn’s Long Story Short on Broadway, which earned him a Drama Desk nomination. The HBO filming of it also earned him an Emmy nomination.

“I’m doing this show because I’ve already covered the world with Long Story Short, the country with Unconstitutional and now the city,” Quinn said. “I’m working my way down to the most fascinating subject: me!”

A synopsis:

In “The New York Story,” Colin bemoans the rise and fall of his hometown, the city formally known as NY from its modest beginnings as Dutch outpost to the hipsters of modern Williamsburg to the vermin below and above ground. Quinn is once again at his satirical best, taking aim at the prejudices, paranoias and peculiarities that make New York City the crossroads of the world.

Quinn most recently toured the country with his Off-Broadway one-man show, “Unconstitutional.”

Colin Quinn: The New York Story plays Tuesday-Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 5pm and 8pm, and Sunday at 3pm and 7pm. There will also be an added performance on Monday, July 20 at 8pm.
