by Jim Gaffigan has offered commentary fairly regularly recently on CBS Sunday Morning, so this week, he aptly paid his respects to David Letterman.
After all, Letterman’s Worldwide Pants produced Gaffigan’s first network sitcom, Welcome to New York, on CBS back in 2000. That sitcom starred Gaffigan as an Indiana TV weatherman — Letterman’s first gig! — who moved to NYC. Gaffigan, like Letterman, grew up in Indiana.
“He was the Hoosier who made it,” Gaffigan said of Letterman.
“I appeared on the Late Show 22 times,” he said.
“I know when Dave is in a great mood. I know when Dave is in a bad mood. I know when Dave dislikes a guest. And I know when Dave is disappointed in himself. When Dave is having a great time, it’s genuine. There’s nothing phony about Dave. I know it sounds like I’m in love with David Letterman. Well, maybe I am.”
David Letterman’s final late-night show airs Wednesday on CBS.
