truTV orders Adam Conover’s “Adam Ruins Everything” to series, more from #Upfronts 2015

truTV showed up for its part of the Turner Networks 2015 Upfront presentations today with two new series ordered up, an extended trailer for another new comedy series and plenty of pilots in the offing.

“In just over six months, we have turned over a whole new network, building momentum with a premium lineup of new series that will keep viewers coming back for more,” said Chris Linn, president, head of programming for truTV. “We now have 17 new shows, with a slate that represents nearly 200 hours of original programming. These new shows, specials and pilots are the kind of fresh and innovative programming that will help us build on the success our ‘Way More Fun’ brand is generating.”

That includes Adam Ruins Everything and The Driver’s Seat, three specials from Impractical Jokers, and pilots for comedians Tom Segura & Christina Pazsistky, CollegeHumor’s duo of Jake and Amir, a guerilla-style game show, a docuseries about a weed distribution business run by four women, and a docuseries that will follow a season of the FXFL’s Brooklyn Bolts football team.

First, the new series:

Adam Conover’s Adam Ruins Everything received an 11-episode order, to premiere in Fall 2015. Produced by CollegeHumor’s Big Breakfast, Conover’s series originated as a CollegeHumor webseries in 2014 that already has amassed more than 30 million views. truTV says Conover “employs a combination of comedy, history and science to dispel widespread misconceptions about everything we take for granted.” Such as this showcase piece, “Why Tipping Should Be Banned.”

Here’s the Adam Ruins Everything playlist from CollegeHumor

Back when it was ordered to pilot, Conover wrote: “Couldn’t be more excited about this. Huge thanks to my director Paul Briganti, Brennan Shroff, Sam Reich, Jon Cohen, Jon Wolf, Erin Owens, Emily Axford, Brian Murphy, Michael Trapp, Bill Bergen, Will Hines, Eliza Skinner, Dan Gregor, Spencer Griffin and everyone at Big Breakfast who is helping making this happen.”

The Driver’s Seat (working title) also will premiere this fall, and looks like taxicab confessions without the taxi; instead, navigation devices inside the car’s dashboard provide talking points for the driver and passengers. It’ll get 12 half-hours initially. Produced by Original Media.

truTV also unveiled this extended trailer from Those Who Can’t, the series from The Grawlix comedians Adam Cayton-Holland, Andrew Orvedahl and Ben Roy. In it, they play three frustrated high-school teachers. The clip also shows co-stars Rory Scovel, Kate Berlant and Maria Thayer, among others. It’ll premiere in early 2016.

But first, late-summer/early-fall of this year will see three half-hour specials from the Impractical Jokers guys: “Punishment Special #2” in August, and “Fan Favorite Special” and “Cutting Room Floor Special” in September 2015.
