Amy Schumer to film HBO special at The Apollo directed by Chris Rock

Amy Schumer is about to film her first HBO stand-up special later this month, and Chris Rock will get behind the camera to direct her.

“Amy is one of the most inspired comics working today, and we hope her first HBO special marks the start of a long and beautiful relationship,” said Michael Lombardo, president of HBO Programming. “This event is even more special because our good friend, the incredibly talented Chris Rock, is directing.”

Schumer will record her hour May 29 at the Apollo Theater in New York City. No air date is announced yet.

Comedy Central already has renewed Inside Amy Schumer for a fourth season — the variety/sketch series airs Tuesday nights this spring and recently earned a Peabody Award. Schumer wrote and stars in her first major movie, Trainwreck, opens this summer, directed by Judd Apatow. It’s great.
