Whitney Cummings filming HBO stand-up special, comedy pilot in 2015

Whitney Cummings is getting back in front of the cameras by 2016, inking a new deal with HBO for a stand-up comedy special to film this fall and a sitcom pilot based on Maureen Dowd’s book, Are Men Necessary? When Sexes Collide.

Marty Callner will direct the Cummings stand-up special this fall during her current tour, with plans for HBO to air it next year.

Cummings created, wrote and will star in the adaptation of Dowd’s book, which takes the eternal hopes and struggles between the sexes and views it through sociology, biology and anthropology. Tom Werner, Jimmy Miller and Dowd are also EPs on that half-hour project for HBO.

Cummings previously starred in Whitney, which aired 38 episodes over two seasons from 2011-2013 on NBC. She’s also the co-creator of 2 Broke Girls, currently wrapping its fourth season on CBS and renewed already for a fifth — with syndication happening on TBS and various CBS affiliates this fall.

Way to go, Whitney!
