NBC slates “Mr. Robinson” and “The Carmichael Show” for August 2015 debuts

NBC will give Wednesday nights a try for sitcoms late this summer, announcing the Aug. 5 debut pairing of Mr. Robinson and The Carmichael Show in the 9 p.m. Eastern/Pacific hour.

Mr. Robinson stars Craig Robinson as a version of his bad self who sings and plays keyboards in the funk band Nasty Delicious (that’s the true part), but has a day job as a substitute high-school music teacher (which was once true, too!). Co-starring Peri Gilpin as the school principal, and Meagan Good as an English teacher.

The six-episode debut season of Mr. Robinson will be followed by Jerrod Carmichael’s half-hour inspired by his own comedy, The Carmichael Show. David Alan Grier and Loretta Devine co-star as Jerrod’s father and mother, with Lil Rel Howery also as his brother.

The new sitcoms will have plenty of comedians setting them up in the previous hour with competition of season nine of Last Comic Standing. Which has a new host in Anthony Jeselnik and a new judge in Norm Macdonald! Speaking of which…!

Also coming to NBC this summer(all times Eastern/Pacific):
