Chris Tucker’s first stand-up special, taped in 2012, will debut July 2015 on Netflix

As difficult as it is to believe that Chris Tucker has not released a full stand-up special on TV before, it’s finally happening this summer, exclusively on Netflix.

Netflix announced today it’ll premiere Chris Tucker Live on July 10, 2015.

The hour promises to include impersonations, physicality and experiences from Tucker’s childhood and career, filmed in his hometown of Atlanta at the Fox Theatre. Tucker told Jimmy Fallon and SiriusXM back in November 2012 that he’d just filmed the special then.

“Chris Tucker is a true global movie star and a one-of-a-kind talent whose remarkable energy, delivery and original style make him one of the funniest comedians of our time,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer. “We cannot wait to share his distinct and hilarious voice with our members across the globe.”

“I’’m thrilled to be partnering with Netflix, one of the true global leaders in entertainment, on my first comedy special,” said Tucker. “Before people started seeing me in movies, I was doing stand-up. It’’s always been a part of me, and now I’’m excited to share it with my fans around the world.”

Tucker, 42, has been touring as a stand-up headliner for the past few years and continues to hit the road now. His first big break came via Russell Simmons’ HBO Def Comedy Jam in the 1990s, then he leapt to the big-screen via the 1995 comedy, Friday, and to stardom via the Rush Hour franchise. He more recently made a memorable turn in a supporting role in Silver Linings Playbook.

Chris Tucker Live is his first project produced through his own company, Chris Tucker Entertainment.
