“Why? With Hannibal Buress” ordered to series by Comedy Central

If you found yourself last year asking why Comedy Central didn’t greenlight a series for Hannibal Buress like he wished them to, then the network has answered that question and is allowing Buress to tackle plenty more.

Comedy Central announced today it has ordered eight episodes of the weekly, half-hour series, Why? With Hannibal Buress. Episodes will tape before a live studio audience and air that same week.

“Hannibal keeps asking us ‘why’ so we just told him to go find out and we’ll air it,” said Kent Alterman, Comedy Central’s President of Content Development and Original Programming.

“I’m extremely excited to help Comedy Central sell advertising,” said Buress.

Perhaps the question “Why?” will come up this weekend when Buress appears on the dais for Comedy Central’s Roast of Justin Bieber. Buress also has a plum recurring role on Broad City as Ilana’s dentist with benefits. On Adult Swim, Buress has been Eric Andre’s reliable sidekick for three seasons of their aggressively funny take on talk shows, The Eric Andre Show. Buress appeared in last year’s box-office hit Neighbors as a police officer, and also will show up in the upcoming Will Ferrell-Mark Wahlberg movie, Daddy’s Home. His latest hour, Live From Chicago, debuted on Comedy Central and was one of 2014’s stand-out stand-up specials.

Executive produced by Buress, Jeff Stilson (“The Chris Rock Show” and “Da Ali G Show”) and Dave Becky of 3 Arts Entertainment, Why? With Hannibal Buress will allow Buress to express his voice and viewpoints on topical headlines or whatever’s on his mind — whether it’s stand-up, filmed segments, man-on-the-street interviews and special, in-studio guests.

No launch date announced yet.
