15 reasons to watch 2015’s Night of Too Many Stars on Comedy Central

Comedy Central’s biennial special event all-star fundraiser, Night of Too Many Stars, returns on Sunday night with plenty of pre-taped stunts and a live telethon and celebrity phone bank — as always, hosted by The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart and organized by Robert Smigel.

You’ll see the likes of Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Louis C.K., Larry David, Jim Gaffigan, John Oliver, Amy Schumer, Martin Short, Larry Wilmore, Sarah Silverman, Bill Burr, Steve Buscemi, Andy Cohen, Ilana Glazer, Gilbert Gottfried, Abbi Jacobson, Maya Rudolph, Susan Sarandon and many more…and here’s one clip to tease it all. Roll it!

Why should you tune in and donate? Allow me to count the ways and reasons.

1. WHY WE’RE DOING THIS

First, know that it all comes from a very personal place for Robert Smigel — whom you may know well as a writer for Saturday Night Live and Conan O’Brien and even better as the voice and hand inside Triumph the Insult Comic Dog (now co-starring in his own Adult Swim series, The Jack and Triumph Show). Smigel and his wife are raising an autistic child (now teenager), and Night of Too Many Stars has brought in more than $18 million since 2006 to support families with autism through community programs. So here is Smigel talking to Stewart earlier this week on The Daily Show about Night of Too Many Stars.

2. WIN SEATS TO JON STEWART’S FINAL DAILY SHOW

Stewart just announced overnight that your $10 donation to Omaze at omaze.com/dailyshow enters you in a raffle to win tickets to witness his final taping as host of The Daily Show (whichever night that turns out to be, still to be scheduled later this year).

3. GET DRAWN INTO THE SIMPSONS

Omaze simultaneously is hosting a raffle, with an assist from Conan O’Brien, to get drawn into an episode of The Simpsons.

4. GET A WHITE CASTLE BURGER NAMED AFTER YOU

And then there’s this Omaze-ing opportunity, with assists from “Harold and Kumar,” to have a White Castle burger honoring you. Take it away, Kal Penn and John Cho.

5. SARAH SILVERMAN SPILLS SECRETS

Comedy Central Night Of Too Many Stars - Show

OK, back to the broadcast. One lucky bidder (and a friend) get to come up onstage and have Sarah Silverman pretend they’re her parents so she can say all of the things she has held back for all of these years.

6. A HAPPY GILMORE REUNION REMATCH

Adam Sandler shows up at Bob Barker’s bedside, but it’s all fun and games until someone gets a bedpan to the face. The reunion 19 years in the making!

7. JODI GETS AN ENCORE

The showstopping moment of the previous Night of Too Many Stars in 2012 found Katy Perry performing a duet of her hit, “Firework,” with young Jodi DiPiazza on the piano. So DiPiazza received an invite to come back, this time presenting a more light-hearted touch as her duet partner is Weird Al Yankovic on “Yoda.”

8. BILL BURR SPLITS THE CROWD

Bill Burr remains unafraid to tackle any topic in front of any crowd, and he didn’t disappoint, even when headlining the end of a very long TV taping.

9. CHRIS ROCK SELLS OUT

I may have been paraphrasing, but when frequent event support and fashion kingpin Tommy Hilfiger made the highest bid to have Chris Rock advertise his products, he should have known what he was paying for. Actually, I think he specifically requested this pitch!

10. LOUIS CK TAKES A CURTAIN CALL

Actually, the comedian whisked one audience member down Broadway for his very own curtain call at the end of a live production of the play, “It’s Only a Play,” starring Matthew Broderick, Stockard Channing, Martin Short and F. Murray Abraham. The wait was worth it.

11. AMY SCHUMER’s COSBY JOKE!

12. STEVE CARELL EATS IT

13. BON JOVI, FORTE AND GOTTFRIED: WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE

Jon Bon Jovi performed “Wanted Dead or Alive” live, trading choruses with both Will Forte and Gilbert Gottfried.

14. WHEEL OF RUDD

Somehow, someway, the most memorable moment from this year’s event didn’t require any auction bids at all?!? A few audience members plucked from the balcony took the stage and spun the Wheel of Rudd to inflict embarrassment and pain on the one and only Paul Rudd. Slaps to his face, eskimo kisses, a glimpse of his penis, and oh yeah, a guy from Queens fed Rudd like a baby bird (echoing a popular classic SNL sketch) with chewed-up pieces of Zabar’s chicken.

15. WHAT’s THAT NUMBER, AGAIN?

Maya Rudolph will sing the phone number until you remember it, in as many ways as it takes for you to remember it.

P.S. SO DONATE!

This year’s event will premiere on Comedy Central at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific Sunday, March 8, with simulcast on SiriusXM’s Comedy Central Radio (channel 95) at 8 p.m. EDT, 5 p.m. PDT.

The live celebrity phonebank includes Fred Armisen, Andy Cohen, Larry David, Ilana Glazer, Abbi Jacobson, Susan Sarandon, Martin Short and Larry Wilmore — plus Uzo Aduba, Samantha Bee, Aidy Bryant, Tom Colicchio, Tony Danza, Ronan Farrow, Willie Geist, John Hodgman, Jason Jones, Hoda Kotb, Aasif Mandvi, Ben McKenzie, Seth Meyers, Kyle Mooney, Kenan Thompson, and Jessica Williams.

Donations are accepted online here.
