2015 Golden Globes nominations continue to compare apples to oranges, put Comedy and Musical together

They announced the nominees for Golden Globes in January 2015, hosted once more by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

The awards show will be great fun. But once more, it’s time to remind everyone that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association doles out these recognitions with somewhat of an agenda, to make sure it’s all great fun, with lots of A-list, popular names, and celebs who appeal to them specifically. Just so we’re all back on the same page. OK. Got it? Good. Also good: They separate comedies out to recognize them separately from dramas. Not as good: But they don’t separate comedies from musicals, instead mashing them together to compete for honors. Which makes for sometimes strange bedfellows. OK. Now I mean it. Are you ready to applaud famous people? Let’s see our nominees, then!

I’m leaving out the supporting acting categories for now, because they’re even more of a mish-mash, putting everyone from comedy, drama, TV movies and miniseries all against one another. We’ll have plenty of time to dish about this. Speaking of when that might be…
