Friars Club to Roast Terry Bradshaw for ESPN2 during Super Bowl week, January 2015

The Friars Club announced today that it’ll roast Terry Bradshaw for its first sports-themed Friars Club Roast on ESPN2.

The Friars Club Roast of Terry Bradshaw will happen Jan. 29, 2015, at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix, and air as an hourlong Super Bowl Week special the following night on ESPN2.

Bradshaw, a Hall of Famer, won four Super Bowls as quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and serves as a longtime NFL commentator on FOX NFL Sunday.

QUOTES!

“What can these guys possibly say to me that isn’t being said daily on social media? Heck….I may even leave here uplifted,” says Bradshaw.

Friars Club Abbot Jerry Lewis added: “It’s about time we start Roasting some hard-hitting athletes who have the brawn to face their Roasters. Terry has gone from tossing the balls to talking the balls so lets see if he has the balls to handle a Friars Roast. I’m pretty sure he does, he’s the consummate professional and I look forward to adding him to our roster of good sports!”

The idea grew out of last year’s Friars Club Roast of Boomer Esiason in New York City during Super Bowl Week.

Bradshaw is set up as a perfect candidate for roasting. He was the first NFL player to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with an onscreen resume dating back to his playing days and roles as himself in Smokey and the Bandit II and The Cannonball Run, Evening Shade, Married with Children, Everybody Loves Raymond, The Jeff Foxworthy Show, The Larry Sanders Show, MADtv and The League. He’s also currently touring the country with a song-and-dance show, “Terry Bradshaw: America’s Favorite Dumb Blonde…A Life in Four Quarters.” And he has written three autobiographies.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Gift of Laughter Wounded Warrior Program, a project of the Friars Foundation that provides entertainment to veterans in military hospitals throughout the U.S. and Europe.
