The Daily Show with Jon Stewart hires Hasan Minhaj and Trevor Noah as correspondents

Michael Che bolted at the end of the summer for a desk job at Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update. Larry Wilmore will leave at year’s end for his own half-hour, replacing The Colbert Report and following his once-and-future boss, Jon Stewart, in 2015.

And so the beast that has produced not only Che and Wilmore, but also catapulted John Oliver, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell, Ed Helms, Rob Corddry and so many more before them, needs to be fed new talent.

And so it is written, so it shall be done — The Daily Show with Jon Stewart has hired two new correspondents: Stand-up comedian and former MTV host Hasan Minhaj starts contributing pieces in November, with South African stand-up Trevor Noah joining the on-air staff in December.

Minhaj (@hasanminhaj) was a New Face performing in Montreal’s Just For Laughs this summer, and also hosted a global documentary Stand Up Planet, which he talked with The Comic’s Comic at length about this spring. In 2013, he hosted the MTV show, Failosophy, and spoke about his social-media advice, as well as the lessons he’s learned from others coming up the ranks as an Indian-American.

Here he is speaking with Bill Cosby during filming of “Stand Up Planet,” when Cos turns the tables on the interview.

Noah (@TrevorNoah) made his first big splash in America last year when he brought his one-man show, “Born A Crime,” to the States (The Comic’s Comic review of Trevor Noah’s “Born a Crime”). It’s based on his life growing up amid South African’s apartheid as the son of an African mother and Swiss-German father. He has plenty of TV experience in his native country, and has appeared on both The Tonight Show and Late Show with David Letterman. His Showtime comedy special, “Trevor Noah: African American” premiered last year.

Minhaj and Noah will join the talented roster of “The Best F*&#ing News Team Ever!” which includes Samantha Bee, Jordan Klepper, Jason Jones, Jessica Williams, Lewis Black, John Hodgman, Al Madrigal, Aasif Mandvi, Kristen Schaal and Larry Wilmore, who will be leaving to launch “The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore” in January.
