by The CW announced at the TCAs over the weekend that it’s going to keep the make-em-up funnies coming for at least another year, ordering 24 more half-hour episodes of Whose Line Is It Anyway? to air in 2015.
The improvisational comedy “game show” made its return last year with a new host — Aisha Tyler replacing Drew Carey — and a new network, but retained the same core cast of Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady and Colin Mochrie, with guest improvisers and celebrity cameos thrown into the mix.
It’s revival was all part of The CW’s plan to get back into the comedy game.
So far, it’s working. At least for Whose Line, which is now airing on both Monday and Friday nights on the network.
Guest stars who’ve appeared so far this year: Lauren Cohan (“The Walking Dead”), Misha Collins (“Supernatural”), Michael Weatherly (“NCIS”), NFL superstar Rob Gronkowski, Olympic gold medalist and commentator Tara Lipinski, Kevin McHale (“Glee”), Darren Criss (“Glee”), Olympic gold medalist and WNBA superstar Lisa Leslie and Kat Graham (“The Vampire Diaries”).
Whose Line is executive produced by Dan Patterson, Mark Leveson, Jimmy Mulville, Ryan Stiles and Wayne Brady. Co-created by Dan Patterson and Mark Leveson, from Angst Productions and Hat Trick Productions, it’s based on the original U.K. format as well as the version which aired on ABC for eight seasons.
