First Look: TruTV’s Friends of the People “The Untold Story of Urkel”

TruTV unveiled the first look at upcoming sketch comedy series Friends of the People today as part of the cable channel’s turn in the summer press tour for the TV Critics Association.

It’ll debut Oct. 28, 2014, with a blend of pop-culture sketches, man-on-the-street segments and more.

Co-stars, writers and executive producers Kevin Barnett, Jennifer Bartels, Jermaine Fowler, Lil Rel Howery, The Lucas Bros. (Kenny and Keith Lucas), and Josh Rabinowitz were on hand along with showrunner Neil Punsalan. They also screened this sketch, which imagines the writers’ room for the ABC TGIF-era sitcom, Family Matters, and how they came to love and loathe their breakout star character: Urkel.
