AMC bumps Better Call Saul debut to 2015 but orders second season in advance of the Breaking Bad spinoff

The good news is we’ll see at least two more seasons of Bob Odenkirk’s lawyer Saul Goodman on TV.

The bad news? We’ll have to wait a few more months to do so. AMC announced yesterday it’d already ordered a second season of Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad spinoff dramedy. But those 13 episodes won’t come until 2016, a year after the 10-episode first season debuts in early 2015. Beginning production this month, Better Call Saul originally was intended to premiere this fall.

The photo above shows Odenkirk in New Mexico this month with Peter Gould, who created Saul’s character as a writer on Breaking Bad, and Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, who’s directing the series premiere and will run the spinoff series with Gould.

Better Call Saul‘s first two seasons will coincide with new seasons of The Walking Dead and Talking Dead in early 2015 and early 2016.

“Production on ‘Better Call Saul’ is underway and we could not be more proud of nor more excited about the work to date. We join the fans in eager anticipation for this series and today we happily confirm that our initial ‘Saul’ order is for two seasons and a total of 23 episodes,” said AMC president Charlie Collier. “When introducing any series, especially one with the DNA of ‘Breaking Bad,’ there are countless factors to consider in making sure the show gets the launch it deserves. We have a strong history with Vince, Peter, Bob, the studio and so many involved with this production; we are enjoying the process on ‘Saul’ and all share a focus on making it a true television event. No half measures.”

Jonathan Banks (Mike) is on board to return with Saul, as the action will follow Saul’s other clients before he met Walter White and the events of Breaking Bad.

Until they announce the contracts to bring back Bill Burr (Kuby) and Lavell Crawford (Huell) as Saul’s muscle men, well, I’ll just be kicking back on this pile of money.
