Aziz Ansari has announced new dates for his current stand-up comedy tour, “Modern Romance,” which also is fueling his mega-million book deal with Penguin on the subject, but the big news in comedy circles is that his dates in New York City, D.C., Houston, Dallas, Philadelphia and Las Vegas are arena-sized.
Aziz has jumped up to become an arena act.
Even if he couldn’t hold back his excitement, Tweeting today: “NYC: I’m doing Madison Square Garden(!!) on 10/9 for the Modern Romance tour.”
Tickets go on sale Friday. Visit tour.azizansari.com or Ticketmaster.
Ansari, a co-star on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, also will headline Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival this summer on July 16-17 — his new tour dates extend into September and October.
Ansari’s publicists note he will become only the eighth comedian to headline Madison Square Garden’s arena. Not to be confused with the many artists who have performed in the Garden’s Theater. The other seven headliners for MSG’s Arena, by my own count: Steve Martin, Andrew Dice Clay, Dane Cook, Chris Rock, Eddie Izzard, Russell Peters and Kevin Hart — who filmed his MSG dates for the 2013 concert film, Let Me Explain.
Ansari’s third hourlong stand-up special, Buried Alive, debuted last November on Netflix.
NEW DATES:
9/12: Houston, TX — Toyota Center
9/13: Dallas, TX — American Airlines Arena
9/26: Philadelphia, PA — Wells Fargo Center
9/27: Washington DC — Verizon Center
10/4: Las Vegas, NV — Mandalay Bay Events Center
10/9: New York, NY — Madison Square Garden Arena
