IFC to debut “Garfunkel and Oates” on Aug. 7, 2014

IFC officially has Garfunkel and Oates on its TV schedule now, with the premiere of the eight-episode first season debuting at 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014.

The semi-autobiographical sitcom follows the exploits of Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci as they go Hollywood and try to find fame, fortune and friends with their folk musical comedy duo.

You’ll be sure to see new takes on some of their older songs, plus more: The premiere finds Lindhome dating another comedian, while Micucci auditions for a role as “hot slut” opposite Sir Ben Kingsley. The second episode will get even hotter and sluttier (?) as they “come face-to-face with their sex video doppelgangers “Garfinger and Butts,”” as IFC’s own press release reads.

Kingsley is one of many supporting characters, who’ll also include Steve Agee, Abby Elliott, Chris Hardwick, Anthony Jeselnik, Natasha Leggero, Tig Notaro, Chris Parnell and the real-life John Oates.

IFC’s Garfunkel and Oates is created by Lindhome and Micucci. They’re executive-producing along with showrunner Dennis McNicholas, Fred Savage, Jonathan Stern and Abominable Pictures. Savage directs the first season, too.

Here’s a short video of the duo talking to Billboard about the joys of touring, for the magazine’s recent comedy issue.
