Late Night with Seth Meyers presents (SNL) Second Chance Theatre: “Jennjamin Franklin”

If at first your Saturday Night Live sketch does not succeed in making the cut for broadcast on NBC, try, try again.

Or wait until you leave the show and your former colleague and head writer has his own platform — in which case, here’s Late Night with Seth Meyers presents Second Chance Theatre!

On paper, it doesn’t seem like a great idea. You watch SNL. You probably already critique SNL, and think it used to be funny, or hasn’t been funny. So think about the sketches that even Lorne Michaels didn’t think were funny enough to compete with the sketches you did see. Want to see those on TV now? Of course you…well, I don’t know you. So who am I to judge? Because it’s one thing on paper, and quite another when the novelty is anew and you see past SNL cast members Will Forte and Jason Sudeikis onstage together once more. Their chemistry still so solid. Even if their kissing technique leaves something to be desired. And yes, this sketch is pretty much eight minutes long.

Alongside Fred Armisen and Vanessa Bayer, here’s Will Forte as “Jennjamin Franklin.”

This was submitted to the SNL table read four times and never even made it to a dress rehearsal.

Roll the clip!

And here is Forte’s explanation to Meyers. “It’s brilliant and stupid!” Forte is sporting a beard for his new role in the FOX midseason sitcom, The Last Man on Earth. Because, of course. You can see the trailer for that here.
