VH1’s “Best Week Ever” has third-worst week ever, canceled once more

Best Week Ever is no more, once more.

VH1 broadcast the last weekly installment of comedic commentary on Friday night. On Monday, the full episode — which featured actor Chris Klein, comedians/actresses Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham of USA’s new series, Playing House, and the full contingent of comedians contributing to BWE — went online. The blog post on VH1.com said, “Best Week Ever is taking a break this week, but will return with an all-new season on Friday, May 2 at 10/9 C!” On second thought, no.

VH1 announced Wednesday a summer slate of programming that did not and would not include BWE. Instead, look forward to “Hit The Floor,” “Dating Naked,” “#CandidlyNicole,” “LeAnne & Eddie,” “Make Or Break: The Linda Perry Project,” “Behind The Music: Linda Perry,” “Philly 4th Of July Jam,” “Atlanta Exes,” “I Love The 2000s,” And “T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle.”

Maybe at least the comedians remembering the 2000s on I Love The 2000s will say something about their nostalgia for Best Week Ever?

“Best Week Ever was a pioneer in pop culture commentary on television when it launched in 2004, delivering its signature blend of comedy and tongue-in-cheek opinions on the most entertaining news and pop culture stories of the previous seven days,” the network said in a statement. “The series also served as a national launching pad for many talented creatives and comedians. We thank them, and the viewers who tuned in each week.”

Best Week Ever‘s first life began in 2004 and helped make familiar faces out of Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Christian Finnegan, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel, Rachael Harris, Melissa Rauch, Mo Rocca, St. Clair, Judah Friedlander, Pete Holmes, Sherrod Small, Chuck Nice and more. VH1 rebooted BWE in 2009-2010 with a host in Paul F. Tompkins. Then in 2013, the third iteration returned, looking more like the first, with a largely new crop of comedians. The BWE cast at closing time included Joanna Bradley, Michelle Buteau, Pete Lee, Jared Logan, Mike O’Gorman, Amanda Seales, Streeter Seidell, Sherrod Small, Dan St. Germain, Emily Tarver, Nick Turner and Henry Zebrowski.

The Comic’s Comic offered an introduction to the new new cast of BWE back in January 2013.

Here’s the final episode of Best Week Ever, which aired the third week of April, 2014. RIP BWE.
