Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda to reunite, star in new Netflix sitcom, “Grace and Frankie”

Netflix has announced a new 13-episode single-cam sitcom, Grace and Frankie, that reunites Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda as “long-time rivals brought together by a rather unusual change in their marital circumstances.”

Tomlin and Fonda famously teamed up with Dolly Parton in the 1980 movie musical, 9 To 5.

“Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are among the funniest and most formidable actresses ever and it’s an incredible privilege to give them the opportunity to run riot on Netflix,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer. “The show created for them by Marta and Howard is warm, very funny and anything but wholesome. We can’t wait.”

Grace and Frankie is written/created by Marta Kauffman (Friends) and Howard J. Morris (Sullivan & Son) and will debut in 2015. It’s produced by Skydance Productions, with Kauffman, Morris, Fonda, Tomlin, Paula Weinstein, David Ellison and Marcy Ross executive producing.

The sticom has Grace (Fonda) and Frankie (Tomlin) bonding when their husbands leave them to marry each other. Modern love?!

Fonda’s recent credits include HBO’s The Newsroom and Lee Daniels’ The Butler. Tomlin also appears in Showtime’s Web Therapy when not on the road performing her solo stage show.
