Here are your nominees for the 2014 American Comedy Awards: Vote now!

The American Comedy Awards are back in a new format and on a new network (NBC), announcing the nominees on Wednesday night with voting open to you through March 18, 2014.

UPDATED: The awards were handed out May 8, 2014 (not the 15th as pictured above). HERE ARE THE WINNERS OF THE 2014 AMERICAN COMEDY AWARDS

Comedy Central — which had hosted/broadcast The Comedy Awards in 2011 and 2012 — led the way in this new edition with 12 nominations overall. NBC programs/talent had 11 nods. Among other networks: ABC grabbed six nominations (five for Modern Family); HBO, five; four for FOX and Netflix (Arrested Development) each; two for IFC’s Portlandia; one for FX’s Archer. And a total snub for CBS, which currently broadcasts the most-watched sitcom on TV!

This Is The End is your leader in the movie clubhouse with seven nominations; other popular film picks were Nebraska (six nods), The Heat (five) and Anchorman 2 (four).

Voting is open to anyone 13 or older, online at NBC’s American Comedy Awards, or via the show’s Facebook app. Voting closes at midnight at the end of March 18.

How’d they come up with the list below? By asking about 860 people in the business who made up the American Comedy Awards Voting Committee.

For what it’s worth, as a member of said Voting Committee, I attempted to give some more love via votes in the nomination process for the following — you’re all honorably mentioned here in my book! — Identity Thief, Warm Bodies (and Rob Corddry in same); Craig Robinson in This Is The End; Jill Soloway (Afternoon Delight) and Lake Bell (In A World…) in the screenplay category; The Goldbergs, Bob’s Burgers, Enlightened and Trophy Wife in TV series; The Eric Andre Show, Burning Love, Childrens Hospital, Maron, Nathan For You, Newsreaders, and NTSF:SD:SUV:: in alternative TV series; The Jeselnik Offensive, The Pete Holmes Show, @midnight, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell in late-night TV; Nick Kroll, Chris Elliott and Danny McBride in TV actor; Wendi McClendon-Covey, Carrie Brownstein, Krysten Ritter and Tina Fey in TV actress; Jake Johnson, Nick Offerman, Max Greenfield, David Cross and Adam Pally in TV supporting actor; Erinn Hayes, Stephanie Beatriz, Melissa Fumero, Michaela Watkins and Casey Wilson in TV supporting actress; Marc Maron, Bo Burnham, Doug Stanhope, Kathleen Madigan, Kumail Nanjiani and the Moms Mabley documentary in comedy specials.

It’s very important to remember that the Club Comic and Viral Video category nominees were culled together through write-in votes.

Which meant the 860 members of the American Comedy Awards Voting Committee couldn’t merely click on buttons, but had to rely on their own memories and knowledge for who was a club comic and what was  a viral video in 2013.

Which may explain how voters still think of Brian Regan as a club comic?! Nevertheless, it’s nice to see Regan nominated along with fellow road vets Doug Stanhope, Bill Burr and Maria Bamford in a lineup along with relative youngsters.

Whom are you voting for, and for whom should I vote? Please weigh in!

  1. Pingback: Whatever 5.8
  2. How in the world did Bo Burnham’s “What?” get overlooked for best comedy special. I like all the comedians that were nominated, but his special was the best comedy special of the last 10 years, and that is including Louis CK’s best stuff.
