by The White House Correspondents’ Association announced today that Joel McHale will headline the 2014 dinner and present remarks following President Barack Obama.
The dinner is a black-tie A-D list affair that brings everyone in politics, entertainment and sports together for dinner with the TV/print/radio/online correspondents who cover the White House. It’ll be held May 3, 2014.
McHale joked on Twitter @joelmchale, “This is very cool & the website to apply to host it worked perfectly.” Adding: “My material will be equally offensive to all & over within 30 min – just like a Congressional work year.”
And then 20 minutes later, McHale wrote in once more: “I hope my wife clears the Secret Service background check. I don’t want to embarrass her, but she has A LOT of priors @yvettenbrown @kenjeong @GillianJacobs,” tagging three of his co-stars on NBC’s Community.
E! — McHale’s other TV home, where he has hosted The Soup for the past decade — broke the news this morning, with the official statement from WHCA president Steven Thomma: “We’re thrilled that Joel will headline the dinner when we celebrate our centennial. He’s sharp, funny, and just the type of comic who can navigate the unique challenge of our dinner, making fun of Democrats, Republicans and especially the news media. Washington can use a little good-natured ribbing.”
