Late-night TV talk show hosts converging on SXSW in March 2014

If you think there’s a lot going on in late-night TV talk in 2014, just wait until you see the humorous convergence taking place the second weekend of March in Austin, Texas.

SXSW already announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live will broadcast five shows from the interactive, film and music festival on the week of March 10, 2014 — and quickly joined by multiple live tapings that same week of Bravo’s Watch What Happens: Live! with Andy Cohen.

Today, everything bigger in Texas just got bigger.

SXSW just has confirmed two more late-night talk-show hosts will be making the rounds in Austin this March, at least for panels, if not also for showcases and/or shows of their own.

Seth Meyers won’t even have a full month under his belt as the host of NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers when he gets debriefed publicly by Olivia Munn — on an Inside Late Night with Seth Meyers panel March 8 with his head writer Alex Baze and producer Mike Shoemaker.

The TBS “Very Funny” Pete Holmes isn’t worried about making it weird, as his popular podcast title attests — so he’ll be in Austin that first weekend of SXSW 2014 as well. Holmes will be joined by his producers Oren Brimer and Nick Bernstein for The Pete Holmes Show Makes it Weird panel on Mondayafternoon, March 10. They’ll be able to talk about the transition from making funny videos online (as Brimer and Holmes did in their FrontPage Films with Matt McCarthy) to making them on a consistent basis for cable TV. And how to combine them with offstage field pieces, interviews and monologues.

Today’s SXSW comedy announcement also included details of an acting workshop with Jeffrey Tambor and a fresh, new panel on the IFC sketch series, Portlandia, starring Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. The Portlandia panel will be moderated by stand-up comedian Matt Braunger and also include the show’s director, Jonathan Krisel.

The SXSW comedy events are open to Interactive, Film, Gold, and Platinum badgeholders.
