by Tim Carvell, the head writer of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, celebrated his last day on Thursday. Carvell left to join John Oliver as executive producer of Oliver’s new weekly talk show that’ll debut on HBO later this year.
Despite writing for Stewart for 10 years, Carvell never managed to carve out any time onscreen for himself in an episode. Until a few weeks ago. Knowing that Carvell was leaving, Stewart and company found a way to put him in front of the camera — in a bit involving Christmas present deliveries — just so they could pay tribute to him on his final day in a Moment of Zen. What a mensch.
Stewart also said that Carvell’s “contributions to the show have been enormous and foundational. He is that rarest of birds. He is a great writer and an incredible talent, but also a very pleasant individual. Those are very hard to find.”
