SNL stands for Saturday Night Line in new Above Average webseries focused on SNL’s stand-by line

From the official NBC policy, regarding stand-by tickets for fans who want to attend the very live broadcast of Saturday Night Live:

Stand-by tickets are distributed at 7am on the 49th st. side of 30 Rockefeller Plaza on the mornings of the show. You may choose a stand-by ticket for either the 8pm dress rehearsal or the 11:30pm live broadcast. Aside from minimal, necessary breaks, all stand-by line members must remain in line at all times. Stand-by tickets are limited to one per person and are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Every member of the line is required to present a valid photo ID when the ticket is issued, as well as at the return time. Please note that all tickets are non-transferrable and non-exchangeable. NBC staff reserves the right to revoke or not issue any ticket to anyone in line if proper procedures are not followed. Please arrive no later than 7:15pm for the dress rehearsal or 10:45pm for the live show. A stand-by ticket does not guarantee admission and no one under the age of 16 will be admitted.

But fans line up sometimes several days before that Saturday morning. Even in winter. Even during a so-called “Polar Vortex.”

Above Average, the webseries company run by Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video production shingle, has started off 2014 with a new webseries just for these crazy devoted fans of SNL and whichever host and musical guest is joining the cast that week. It’s called “Saturday Night Line” — and this SNL will release new episodes online each Friday and Saturday when the show is in session.

It debuted over the weekend with host/musical guest Drake.

Here, Jay Pharoah and Taran Killam announce they’re going to give two tickets to fans waiting overnight in line.

Next, Vanessa Bayer offers to ask host/musical guest Drake a question on behalf of a “superfan,” but turns it into a game of “telephone.” “You’ll” “see.”

Look forward to two more episodes of SNL this weekend before the TV version of SNL, with host Jonah Hill and musical guest Bastille.
