Monty Python onstage reunion alert! It’s happening in 2014!

Remember earlier this year when I shared with you Eric Idle’s explanation for what is and what is not an official Monty Python reunion?

This is official.

Terry Jones told the BBC as much already on Tuesday: “We’re getting together and putting on a show – it’s real,” Jones said. “I’m quite excited about it. I hope it makes us a lot of money. I hope to be able to pay off my mortgage!”

Idle, for his part, has been hinting and teasing us all on his Twitter feed for the past few days @EricIdle about Python meetings and a planned announcement. Six hours ago, Idle typed: “Python meeting this morning. Can’t wait. Press Conference Thursday will apparently be live on Sky News. I’ll get you the online URL.”

The Sun had reported overnight that all surviving members (sorry, no Graham Chapman reincarnation, despite his starring role in Monty Python’s Life of Brian) were on board: Jones, Idle, John Cleese, Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam.

Monty Python — the legendary British comedy troupe seen on TVs in the late 1960s and into the 1970s, and comedy cult heroes on the big screen in five movies together — last staged a major reunion for their 40th anniversary in 2009 with a documentary that aired on IFC.

Their press conference Thursday will take place where Idle’s current production of Spamalot is staged.

More details to come!
