If ABC’s The Goldbergs is The Wonder Years for Generation X, how come I keep wondering what year it is?

ABC’s The Goldbergs is supposed to beĀ The Wonder Years for Generation X.

Patton Oswalt introduces each episode in voiceover as happening in “1980-something.”

X marks the spot.

Solve for X.

I attempted to do the math for my friends at Previously.TV. Read the whole story and see if you agree with my calculations.

  1. They do that so they get some more wiggle room. It’s clearly between 1987 and 1989 from the references, plus Adam was born in 1976, making him between 11 and 13, just like Kevin Arnold in the late-60’s.
