Kenneth Brown, who went by Kd Brown on Facebook and KD, K.D. or Kenny Brown elsewhere, was killed early Monday morning after tacking a shooter wreaking havoc inside the nightclub of the Bally’s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. Brown was 40.
He’d recently moved to Vegas from Los Angeles. Bally’s has a comedy club inside the resort casino (L.A. Comedy Club) and also is the upcoming home for a residency gig by Britney Spears — but the shootings took place at the Drai’s After Hours club around 5:45 a.m. Monday after a patron argued with the nightclub’s bouncers and shot two of them. Police said Brown was leaving Drai’s at the time and tackled the shooter, but was shot in the chest and neck in the process.
“He was my hero,” Brown’s mother, Norma Sattiewhite, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “He’s my hero, and I know he’s with the Lord … I’m not surprised he died trying to save someone’s life.” (via Shecky)
Brown grew up in Montclair, Calif., and performed at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles.
His friends reacted on Facebook.
From Leo Flowers: “Yesterday I posted the question about which super powers, invisibility or flight, you’d want and what you would do with it. Some people said they’d use their super power to fight crime. Kd Brown, a comedian and good friend, died recently while trying to stop a gunman shooting in a Vegas nightclub. Here’s to people who’s super power is bravery.”
From Andrea Miles: “KD had such a kind heart and he was always willing to help someone out in any way that he could, even to the point of putting his life on the line for someone else. Such an amazing person! He will be missed….especially that big smile!”
