by Congrats to D.L. Hughley for signing a deal with Reach Media to bring a nationally syndicated afternoon “drive time” broadcast to a radio station near you this year. The 3-7 p.m. “The D.L. Hughley Show” doesn’t have a launch date or stations to announce with the signing, though it does have a slot on Reach Media’s website.
Hughley, who recently brought himself a higher profile via ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, said of his return to radio: “I’m very excited to get back to radio and it couldn’t have come at a better time. I think radio fits my sensibility. I want to be fast, I want to be funny, I want to be topical. I want to make people laugh a lot and think a little. Some people want to push the envelope – I want to see if I can singe it a little.”

Reach, founded a decade ago by Tom Joyner, also produces and distributes syndicated radio programs hosted by Joyner, Rickey Smiley, Russ Parr, Yolanda Adams, James Fortune and Al Sharpton.
Hughley’s afternoon show will feature talk and music, and also be affiliated with Cumulus Media Networks.
In addition to his stand-up comedy and sitcom credits, Hughley also has experience hosting topical talk and comedy on CNN (with D.L. Hughley Breaks the News) and won a Peabody Award this past year for his documentary, The Endangered List. He enjoyed a brief run in morning radio in New York City in 2009-2010, but ran up against his Kings of Comedy cohort Steve Harvey in direct competition for listeners.
